Long commutes linked to larger waistlines

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Before you get in your car, listen up -- commuting may be hazardous to your health.

A new study finds people who drive longer distances to work are more likely to have greater body mass indexes, bigger waist sizes, and higher blood pressure. Researchers in Missouri also found that those who commute more than 15 miles to work were more likely to be obese.

Researchers say commuters are spending their time sitting behind the wheel instead of being physically active.
