WE What's Trending: Chinese students hook up IV to study

Posted: Updated:

(CBS/CNN) - You won't believe what students do to prepare for a test that could spell success or failure for the rest of their lives.  In China, they're using IVs.

It's easy to understand why the images have gone viral. Chinese high school students connected to intravenous drips hanging from the classroom ceiling to help them study.  Many of the students were taking amino acids. The students say they learned the IV could restore their energy.  The IV drips were first administered in the infirmary, but with the clock ticking, the drips were moved right into the classroom to save precious time.  It's an indication of just how far Chinese students will go to get into university.

A group of teens going to prom got the surprise of their life during picture time.  The Wisconsin teens were posing on a pier when the unthinkable happens -- the pier gave way.  The teens ended up in the water.  "It's completely unexpected.  It doesn't even happen on TV, and all of a sudden here it is happening to us," says Matt Timm.  "We're laughing about it now and it's hilarious, and I'm sure my kids will laugh at it.  It'll be remembered a long time."  With the help of a few hair dryers, some borrowed shirts for the guys and some touch-ups on the makeup for the girls, the group finally made it to the prom.

Also trending this Thursday, Brad Pitt is the first man ever cast as the face of Chanel No. 5.  The french fashion house confirms the actor is the latest to represent the famous fragrance, following in the footsteps of the likes of Nicole Kidman.  E! News reports the actor will shoot his first ad in London sometime this week.  It's reported he'll earn seven figures for the work.

Elvis is in somebody's building and it cost them a cool $37 million dollars for the privilege.  A "Double Elvis" painting by artist Andy Warhol was up for auction at Sotheby's on Wednesday. The piece was a silkscreen ink and spray paint on canvas.  It shows Elvis Presley in a gunslinger pose and was first exhibited in 1963.  Warhol made 22 versions of the "Double Elvis."  Nine of them are in museums.  While the $37 million dollars is a lot of money, the auction house thought it would fetch $50 million.
