Higher income, education levels linked to better health

(CBS) - A new government report finds people with higher education and income levels have lower rates of many chronic diseases. Data from 2007 to 2010 shows college educated women over 25 are less likely to be obese. Children are also less likely to be obese in homes where the head of the household has a bachelor's degree. According to CDC numbers, more educated people are also less likely to smoke.

(CBS) - Relief could be on the way for diabetics suffering from chronic pain. Yale University researchers have identified microscopic molecules on nerve cells that are causing discomfort for millions of diabetics. Scientists are working to develop drug therapies to target those molecules.

(CBS) - Health experts say taxes on unhealthy foods need to be higher. Researchers at the University of Oxford predict a 20 percent tax on sugary drinks in the US would reduce obesity rates up to 3.5 percent. The food industry argues the taxes would be unfair, ineffective and lead to job losses.
