Mineola man sentenced to 20 years for sexual assault

WOOD COUNTY (KYTX) - On May 23, 2012, following a jury trial in the 402nd Judicial District Court of Wood County, Texas, and after only 8 minutes of deliberation, a jury of 5 men and 7 women found Benjamin Edward George, 44, of Mineola, Texas, guilty of the felony offense of Sexual Assault. The offense occurred on July 6, 2011.

The punishment phase of Benjamin George's trial began in May 24, 2012. After hearing testimony from prior victims of his abuse and after only 15 minutes of deliberation, the jury sentenced him to twenty years imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and fined him $10,000, the maximum sentence.

The prosecution was led by Jim Wheeler, Criminal District Attorney with Assistant District Attorney Joey Fenlaw assisting. Judge G. Timothy Boswell presided.
