Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

LONGVIEW (KYTX) -- Six months after a drunk driver crashed into her patrol car, Longview Police Officer Leigh Ann Snyder remains on medical leave, undergoing rehab. CBS 19's Abby Broyles joins us now from our Longview newsroom with how officers are working to help Snyder as she recovers.

Officer Snyder was in the hospital with serious injuries for a month after the crash happened in December. She was on duty responding to a call when a drunk driver crashed into her patrol car hitting her head on. Now she's undergoing rehab, and her fellow officers are helping with her medical bills through a community fundraiser starting this weekend."

The Longview Police Officer's Association is helping one of its own. Officer Leigh Ann Snyder is undergoing medical treatments after a fiery crash in December.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to rescue her from her patrol car. Police say a drunk driver hit a curb, over-corrected and slammed into Snyder, flipping her car. Police arrested the other driver, 22-year old Ramon Antonio Dominguez for intoxication assault with a vehicle.

Snyder had emergency surgery. Officers say her spirits are up as she continues to recover at home.

"She has downs and highs medically, but I think she's going strong," Officer Misty Ryan said.

To help with Snyder's medical bills, the Longview Police Officers Association is selling raffle tickets at Sam's and Lowe's in Longview this Saturday, June 2nd and next Saturday, June 9th.

A fundraiser lunch will happen next Thursday, June 7th at First Baptist Church downtown.

"The community in Longview has already stepped up a whole lot to assist and as a department to help a fellow person more than anything, it's always a good gift to do," Officer Ryan said.

Officer Snyder has been with the Longview Police Department since 2005. As she continues to recover, she hopes to return to the police department once her rehab is complete.

The Longview Police Officer's Association will also be hosting a sporting clays tournament July 7th at Prairie Creek Sporting Clays 8:30am - noon.
