Children Are A Gift: Shaynia and Johnathon

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- Shaynia and Johnathon take in all the sights and sounds at Tyler's Caldwell zoo.

"What's your favorite animal at the zoo?" I asked 8-year-old Shaynia. "All kinds," she replied with a big smile.

"I feel Shaynia and Johnathon need to stay together because they have that close bond," said LaTanya Greenhouse, their caseworker with Child Protective Services.

The highlight of the day for this brother and sister was feeding the elephants. Shaynia said, "I would throw it and then one ate one."

Shaynia is a loving little girl. She likes to explore her surroundings, and is not afraid to ask questions.

"She's very friendly and outgoing. "Shaynia is the type of person who will go and grab a friend," said Greenhouse.

And although she faces some developmental delays, she's doing well in school. Greenhouse said, "[She] has good grades, loves to learn. [She's an] easy learner, fast learner."

Johnathon is a sweet 10-year-old boy. His developmental delays are more severe than his sister's. He will require a lot of assistance.

"He's a pretty quiet person. Johnathon loves to build and play with blocks. He loves school, but he wants that one-on-one attention," explained Greenhouse.

Although limited, Johnathon can communicate. "He can speak. He can do sign language."

These siblings want to stay together and Shaynia has a specific request about a forever family. "[That] you care about me and you care about my brother."

Greenhouse said, "They are just loving kids. They are children who deserves a loving home."
