(CBS) - A simple blood test could one day help doctors treat early stage breast cancer.

Researchers at the University of Texas found one in four patients carry circulating tumor cells or CTC's in their blood. The study found women with CTC's are at a higher risk of developing a deadlier form of the disease. Researchers say if follow up research confirms the findings, doctors would know which patients require more aggressive treatment.
