(CBS) - Strong winds are hurting fire-fighting efforts in Colorado and New Mexico.

A 40-square-mile fire is burning near the mountain town of Ruidoso, New Mexico -- and a 22-square mile blaze is burning near Fort Collins, Colorado. At least one person has been reported missing in Colorado.

The two fires have destroyed dozens of buildings and hundreds of people have been evacuated near the fires. High winds grounded aircraft trying to battle the New Mexico fire.
