(CBS) - If you're sleepy during the day, don't blame it on a lack of sleep. Three new Penn State studies say the main causes are obesity and depression. Researchers followed about two thousand people and found weight gain was the strongest predictor, emotional stress was next. Sleepiness has been connected to on-the-job accidents and significant health risks.

(CBS) - A dramatic increase in the use of MRI's and CT scans has also triggered a substantial rise in radiation exposure. A study of six large health-care systems found that between 1996 and 2000, MRI's quadrupled, CT scans tripled and ultrasounds doubled. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco say given the high costs, and potential health risks like cancers, clear guidelines should be developed for diagnostic imaging.

(CBS) - If you're confused over conflicting messages about Vitamin D, a government advisory panel's recommendations won't help. They say taking daily low doses of Vitamin D or Calcium won't prevent bone fractures. For higher doses, the panel says the evidence is too limited to make recommendations. It also says there's insufficient evidence Vitamin D prevents cancer. Some studies have connected vitamin d with lower rates of some cancers, but the panel says more studies are needed.
