It's Time Texas: Getting out of your "Fat Pants" at the YMCA

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Finding the right recipe to lose weight with all the classes and weight machines to chose from can be confusing and a bit overwhelming.

"I came in the weight room," says LaTosha Cleaver.  "I had no idea what I was doing, so I was just getting on all the machines and working out.  Then, Jimmy started showing me how to do different things and he said, you know I teach a class."  That class, the Fat Pants program.

Brandon Salisbury with the YMCA says it started out as a trial program, but members had so much success, it's now offered monthly.  "Any of the members in that program work out with a trainer twice a week, a cardio boot camp style workout and then a trainer also designs a weight fitting workout for them 3 times a week," says Brandon Salisbury, Associate Executive Director of the YMCA.

LaTosha cleaver signed up with nothing to lose, but the weight.  "I want to get into an 8 and I am at a 9 right now. I started out as an 11/12," says LaTosha.

Every time they drop a pant size, the fat pants folks bring them to the YMCA to donate to the Salvation Army.  "I've already dug out some pants from the back of my closet and started wearing them so," says LaTosha.  "I'm hoping to get rid of them. The pants I started out in I'm having to wear a belt with now."

LaTosha's lost 15 pounds off of her 25 pound goal.  She says the Fat Pants program helps focus her weight loss goals and what she wants to achieve toning her body.  "Plus, I met some good friends in it and we keep each other motivated."

Now it's time to say so long to her Fat Pants, and hello skinny jeans.
