(CBS) - Your child's weight may affect how they perform in the classroom.

Researchers in Missouri found children who were obese starting in kindergarten performed worse on math tests in first through fifth grade. In third or fifth grade no differences were found. Researchers say for both boys and girls who were obese throughout their elementary school years, feeling sadder, lonelier and more anxious explained some of their poorer math performance.

(CBS) - A new study finds that most seniors are unable to cross the street in time.

Researchers in London found more than 75 percent of people ages 65 and older were unable to walk 3.9 ft. per second, the speed needed to use a pedestrian crossing in many parts of the world. The study found that older men walked an average of 2.9 feet per second and older women an average of 2.6 feet per second. Researchers say not being able to cross a busy street severely impacts a senior's quality of life.

(CNN) - New safety rules may let parents of young football players rest a little easier.

Pop Warner is making changes, hoping to reduce devastating head injuries. The youth football organization's new rules include limiting contact drills during practice to no more than 40 minutes. The organization is also banning head-on blocking or tackling drills, when players start from more than three yards apart from each other. The chairman of the organization's medical advisory board says he hopes the changes will cut the number of hits to young football players' heads in half.
