We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - DPS is trying to find a man on the run in a stolen truck and another man in the woods of West Smith County off Highway 64.

That second man bailed out of the truck during a chase that started before 6 tonight.

DPS Trooper Richard Hoover attempted to stop the man for a traffic violation and realized the truck was stolen.

DPS believes the driver has warrants out and that's why he ran, but investigators won't release the name of the person they think it is.

People were shocked to realize there was a manhunt in their neighborhood.

"No I didn't," says Patty Hayes.

When asked if it surprised her she said, "yeah, a little, yeah. Sometimes I stay by myself."

Hayes lives near the woods where troopers say a man took off running Friday.

Friday night, Troopers patrolled the area but were not in the woods chasing him.

"Why are they not looking for him though? Why did they stop if somebody is loose? Is he dangerous?" asks Hayes.

Troopers say they do not believe the man is armed or dangerous.

They say they tried to pull over a white Dodge truck reported stolen on FM 2621.

"He turned onto State Highway 31, traveling towards Tyler and turned a couple times on county roads," says Trooper Richard Hoover.

The trooper chased him down County Road 47 until he bailed out of his truck and ran into the woods. The trooper tried to chase him there, but the brush was too thick.

"I got tangled up in some brush and barbed wire fence and by the time I got all that and got my gear untangled, I lost track of him," says Trooper Hoover.

Another man, a passenger, was also in the truck.

"I turned around and saw him and he apparently jumped over the drivers seat and took off in the vehicle," says Trooper Hayes.

That's when the manhunt began for two men on the road, and in the woods.

Smith County Sheriff's Deputies and Constables came out, even a K-9 unit.

"I hope they catch him," says Hayes.

Trooper Hoover says the tracking dog lost track of the man near a creek bed in the woods.

They do believe he knew a woman who lived nearby, and may have been headed to that house.

Troopers have not released the identity of either man.

We do know the truck is a white 2001 Dodge pick up with a white rack on the back windshield and a 4 by 4 sticker, missing the first 4.

That truck has some small tools in the bed.

Troopers say the truck left the area on County Road 47 heading North.

They say the man they think is hiding in the woods has warrants in Van Zandt County for parole violations and in Smith County for drug charges.
