UPDATE (June 19, 2012) - Tyler Police Department:
Tyler Police Investigators are still sorting out the details on what exactly occurred last night. Investigators were told that two male adults had come over to the Wilks residence at 520 Wells Street around 9 p.m. for reasons unknown at this time.
The suspect involved in the stabbing had said something to Wilks's 14 year-old step-son out in the roadway. Wilks heard the comment, went outside the residence and got into a physical altercation with the suspect because of the comment. During the altercation, Wilks was stabbed and cut numerous times by the suspect with a small knife.
The suspect, along with an identified friend, left before officers arrived. Hospital officials have listed Wilks in stable condition.
This case remains under investigation.
CBS19 talked with ETMC earlier this morning. They tell us Eldon Wilks is hospitalized in serious condition.

On 06-18-2012 at approximately 9:00pm, the Tyler Police Department received a 911 call from a citizen at 520 Wells St, saying that someone had been stabbed at that location. Officers responding to the call located the victim, Eldon Wilks, at the intersection of Wells and Donnybrook. Wilks was being transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. EMS was called to the scene and transported Wilks the remainder of the way to the hospital. Wilks had multiple cut and stab wounds to his arms and upper body.
At this time, the circumstances surrounding the stabbing are not clear. The Tyler Police Department crimes against persons detectives were called out and are investigating the incident. Updated information will be provided as it develops.
The victim is Eldon Wilks, white male, age 39 of Tyler.
TYLER (KYTX) -- Around 9 p.m. Tyler police responded to a disturbance call at 520 Wells St.
They found a white male had been stabbed.
Detectives are talking to witnesses.
The victim has been transported to ETMC.
