East Texas in much better shape for summer weather

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- We all remember how brutally hot and dry it was last summer. Since we are officially into the summer season of 2012, lets see how the weather statistics so far this year compare to the same time in 2011.

In 2011, Tyler had recorded 12 days with high temperatures at least 100 degrees by June 20th with the highest being 105 degrees on June 18th and 19th. We would go on to set a record 81 days by the end of September including 46 in a row from June 28th through August 12th.

We maxed out at 110 degrees on August 2nd and 3rd, one degree shy of the all-time Tyler record high. This year, the highest temperature so far is 95 degrees on June 5th and 11th.

Rainfall this year totals 22.15" to date which is still 2.80" below normal, but last year we had received 11.74" or just over half that amount.

As you can see, we are in much better shape heading into the summer of 2012 compared to 2011.
