Tyler Junior College considers partnering with Lon Morris

TYLER (KYTX) - Some colleges across Texas are looking at the possibility of entering a partnership with Lon Morris.

The College in recent years has experienced negative cash flow and debts have increased, resulting in the college to hire Bridgepoint Consulting to conducted an assessment of the school.

The Board of Trustees of Lon Morris College and their advisors considered the Bridgepoint assessment, and determined the College's mission would be best served under the current circumstances by entering into a transaction or agreement with another educational institution.

"We want to be there if our help is needed. We want to offer that. The students are important. Jacksonville community is important," said Fred Peters, Tyler Junior College spokesman.

Fred Peters with Tyler Junior College said Lon Morris contacted the school a few weeks ago about a possible educational relationship.

"Those students, their futures are important and they had plans and we would like to be able to see them continue those plans and complete their degrees," said Peters.

Students at Tyler Junior College have become friends with a number of Lon Morris students in the past month. The school stepped in to offer housing and classes when the school unexpectedly shut down.

"It was a little disappointing to hear one of the local schools was going out of business," said TJ Rankin.

Now, TJC students are hoping their school can do something to help out the troubled institution.

"We heard a lot teachers and students got laid off and classes might be different. So, if we can do anything to help I think that would be best for both schools," said Jeraye Evans.

"Not just expanding TJC, but giving Lon Morris teachers, professors and students a chance to stay in that area and go to school," said Acsah Talley.

The school is considering other colleges and universities. Tyler Junior College is the only school right now that is confirming they have been contacted by Lon Morris.

"It's really too early to tell exactly what their choice is going to be and what we might be able to arrange if in fact they do select Tyler Junior College to assist," added Peters.
