LONGVIEW (KYTX) -- Police are looking for the people responsible for vandalizing a Longview neighborhood overnight, slashing tires and painting graffiti on cars. CBS 19's Abby Broyles spoke with neighbors in the area today and joins us now from the Longview Police Department.
Imagine trying to get out the door this morning, and finding your car parked outside with your tires slashed. It happened to more than 20 people here in Longview today, and police say it happened in about 2 squares miles around Pine Tree High School.
"It's horrible, we're all out 2 tires now and had to pay for tow trucks to get our cars to the shops," Christin Latus said.
Neighbors in the pine tree aren't happy. Bobbie Nuner's 16-year old grandson's truck was keyed on the side door, his tires slashed, and two other tires slashed on their camper. both were parked outside their house Wednesday night.
"Special paint jobs are extremely high these days so it's a little heartbreaking on that," Nuner said.
Their family isn't alone. Police say vandals did the same thing, slashing tires and vandalizing more than 20 cars in the neighborhood overnight.
"I've lived here basically my whole life and we haven't had anything like this before," Latus says, "it's shocking to have to go through it."
Vandals left Christin Latus stuck with flat two tires this morning. Her car was also parked overnight on her street.
"Any car that was parked on the side of the street got both tires slashed. There's some other streets further down that had things written on the windows and on the cars, but we were lucky no to have that," Latus said.
Christin says she's out about 500 bucks now. She's thankful the damage wasn't worse.
"At least it was just two tires, not four," Latus says, "tires are replaceable, that's okay, we can fix that."
Police tell us they've had other similar reports of vandalism earlier this week - but not this many all in the same night. At this point, investigators don't know who's responsible, and anyone with information is asked to call Longview Police.
Investigators say the vandals also hit the Regency Park Apartments in Longview last night. But police don't have a total financial estimate for all the damage.
Police say to protect your property, park in a well-lit area or in a garage if you can.
