Lower gas prices spur summer travel

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) -- If you're thinking about taking a road trip for the Fourth of July, you'll have plenty of company out there.

AAA says more people will hit the road this year than any time in the last decade, for a total of nearly 43 million. They say falling gas prices and lower car rental rates are convincing more people to invest in a vacation.

"Now since the gas is lower, I'm able to save more money when I travel and keep the money instead of paying for the plane ticket," Tyler resident Kita Watkins said.

AAA expects the roads to be the busiest on June 29th. The least busy day of the travel period should be July 2nd.
