TYLER (KYTX) - This week begins the 25th year that hundreds of Methodists will reach out to some of our Tyler neighbors to make life a little brighter by doing repair projects.
From minor home repair projects to major renovations and cleanup efforts, the teams are ready for a week of work and fellowship. Marvin United Methodist Church partners with St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Pollard United Methodist Church to make this one of the biggest mission outreach projects in the city. The projects are totally funded by second-mile giving. We are expecting to spend $50,000.00 during this week.
A kick-off dinner for volunteers at 6 p.m. Friday at Pollard UMC will begin the Mission Week activities. Volunteers will sign up for painting, doing major or minor construction work, delivering water and ice to the work sites, doing yard work, preparing and serving the meals provided for the workers during the week, running errands, taking pictures, donating water or Gatorade for the workers, donating funds for materials needed, or praying for mission week volunteers. There is something for everyone to do, no matter what their skill level or age. The children will have a project of their own. They will build and paint planter boxes for the Mission Week families. The 1st and 2nd graders will meet Monday and Tuesday 3:30-5:00 at St. Paul's UMC. The 3rd and 4th graders will work Wednesday and Thursday 3:30-5:00.
The volunteers will come together at Pollard UMC for lunch on Saturday and Monday through Friday. During this time progress reports on the sites will be given. Evening meals will be at St. Paul's UMC Monday through Wednesday.
On Thursday, June 28, a Neighborhood Festival will be held at St. Paul's UMC 6-8 p.m. It is a chance to interact with some of the families being helped as well as their neighbors. Activities for children of all ages will be provided. This is a fun time for everyone after many days of hard work.
