MARSHALL (KTBS) - One local college is getting ahead of fall semester 2012. Wiley College is getting new students prepared for the next step of their lives. Ladarius Clark is one of those students, but he isn't just any graduate from Dallas CAN Academy.
"I received an award for having the highest GPA of my class," Clark said.
He was made valedictorian of his class and now looks to attend Wiley College in the fall. Wiley has taken extra steps to insure Clark and other students' are well prepared.
"The more we take care of during the summer, the easier the semester flows for the fall semester," Wiley Dean Dr. Sonya Burnett-Andrus said. She is referring to Visit Us, a program meant to get new students ahead in registering for the fall.
"It provides students an opportunity to come in early, take care of all of their fiscal responsibilities," she said.
The program has been helping students for the past three years. Today's visit brought in 75 students.
"It's smaller in attendance," Burnett-Andrus said. "Therefore, they have more one on one interaction with the offices."
Interaction that would be harder to gain come the fall.
"During the fall semester we will have 500 new freshmen," Burnett-Andrus said. "So, there will be extensive lines."
Wiley College will hold another Visit Us later this summer.
