(KCEN) -- Richard Hurd, a former Baylor basketball player, was arrested by the FBI on June 22 on a charge of extortion.
Hurd was reportedly targeting former Bears Quarterback Robert Griffin III.
A representative identified as B.D. in official court records contacted the FBI on June 18 after Hurd threatened to release derogatory information about B.D.'s client, reportedly Griffin. Hurd demanded money, both in an email and over the phone, in exchange for the information.
An FBI agent, B.D. and an attorney for the agency B.D. works for agreed to give the appearance of going along with the plan to give Hurd money for the information. They agreed on an amount of money to be paid and on June 22, met at a local business in Waco for the exchange.
Hurd agreed to let another person meet him for the exchange. He signed a non-disclosure agreement, was presented with a check representing the amount agreed upon and turned over the derogatory information he had.
The FBI agent was present during the transaction and arrested Hurd shortly after the exchange was finished.
The court records used the initials B.D. to refer to the agent who filed the claim. Griffin's agent's name is Ben Dogra.
Hurd appeared in the Waco Federal Court on June 25 for arraignment.
