ARP (KYTX) - Service is finally restored after a water main break, but the city is under a boil water notice tonight.
It's a wake up call for all of us to be prepared for a similar problem in the triple digit heat.
Wanda Williams noticed her water pressure was low when she turned on her kitchen sink Tuesday afternoon.
"I went up the road and asked my neighbor and she told me hers was low also," says Wanda Williams.
She found out a water main break happened just down the road at Pauline and Bradford Streets.
"First time I've ever noticed it like that. That's why it freaked me out," says Williams.
It took crews about 2 hours to fix the main, you can see where it's patched.
A construction crew hired through the city was working on a sewer line when they hit the water main. Roads were also closed while they repaired the break, and 1,200 people had to boil their water.
"When you don't have water, you really need it you know," says Williams.
FEMA says to be prepared in summer months by storing one gallon of water per person for a day, so 12 gallons for a family of 4 for 3 days.
And to replace water every 6 months if it's not commercially bottled.
Because you never know how long it could take to get the water flowing, and how much you might need it in the heat.
"As hot as it is, we got to have water and electricity right now anyway," says Williams.
When boiling water to kill bacteria, the Center for Disease Control says bring your water to a rolling boil for one minute.
The city of Arp will have results back on the water in three days.
Residents will then be notified when it's safe to drink their water without boiling it.
