SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) -- A grand jury indicted 25-year-old Jared Stinecipher this week on charges two charges related to the death of 50-year-old Arthur Dewayne Murphy in December of 2010.

Stinecipher allegedly hit Murphy's car at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 757 and Farm to Market Road 2767 on December 17 after driving through a stop sign. The accident forced Murphy's car off the road and into a ditch. Murphy later died from his injuries, while a lengthy manhunt turned up nothing.

Stinecipher allegedly confessed, later in the weekend, to his father, who is a Smith County Sheriff's Deputy. A five-month Texas Department of Public Safety investigation led to Stinechipher's case being put before a Smith County Grand Jury on June 21. The grand jury indicted Stinecipher on charges of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a state jail felony, and Failure to Stop and Render Aid, a third-degree felony.

Stinecipher is currently serving a two-year prison sentence with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for possession of a controlled substance and the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was transferred to the Smith County Jail on June 21 pending the outcome of the homicide case.
