Local hospital's reactions to Supreme Court healthcare ruling

Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics:

"The national debate on healthcare has highlighted a need for healthcare organizations to focus intently on quality and value. Trinity Mother Frances is well into this journey and is on the forefront as an integrated organization, uniting doctors and hospitals. Integrated healthcare providers who have taken a progressive approach to solving many of the issues that reform has tried to address are already on a path of improving quality and finding ways to reduce costs. Trinity Mother Frances has made quality improvement our priority for the last several years. Some examples include: the adoption of the Medical Home model, which incorporates the patient, their family, primary care physician and specialists; TMF's commitment of significant resources to the widespread deployment of a single electronic medical records system, ConnectCARE; and incorporating the Universal Bed Model into the Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital which brings most of the care and staff to the patient's bedside and can improve healing times and ultimately allow the patient to go home sooner. This medically-aggressive approach to integrating and improving the way healthcare is delivered is what is needed and we are committed to finding new ways to improve the quality of care while also finding additional ways to help reduce costs. Our recent IMS Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Network recognition, Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospital Award and the Leapfrog Award, which graded Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler with an "A" for our quality of care, are acknowledgements of and a fulfillment of our System's mission to enhance community health through service, with compassion, excellence and efficiency." – JohnMoore, public information officer, Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics

Longview Regional Medical Center:

" Longview Regional Medical Center will continue to do our part to improve the healthcare system by providing high-quality care and the best possible experience for our patients while controlling costs and working to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all." Jim Kendrick, LRMC, CEO

Good Shepherd Health System:

"Good Shepherd has always and will continue to provide health care to all who seek it regardless of their ability to pay. With the uninsured representing 20 percent of our patient population, we have a significant financial burden to provide services for this growing number of patients who need care.

If this new law is able to increase the number of individuals with health insurance, we are optimistic it will encourage them to receive healthcare services earlier thus staying healthier, and reducing the need for critical care services. However, there are concerns about how this will be financed and if other programs will receive cuts thus shifting the issue to other areas of health care."
