Families affected by Colorado wildfire

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- More than $35,000 people have had to evacuate in Colorado Springs, three of them live here in Tyler.

Jeff and Carolyn Davis and their 4-year-old son Zack planned on vacationing on Pikes Peak mountain at a family home.

They were forced to evacuate when about 5,000 acres were burned.

Carolyn says even then, there were signs of destruction.

"I can't imagine now, 10, 15,000 acres, just all the smoke and everything in the air," she said.  "We had, there were ashes and stuff that were just falling in the air."

The Davis' family home has not been affected by the fire yet.

The fire is only five percent contained tonight.
