Ted Cruz stops in Tyler, talks government spending

TYLER (KYTX) - It's only a month away until runoff elections, and one race is getting a lot of attention here in Tyler.

It's the race for Kay Bailey Hutchinson's old seat in the U.S. Senate.

The race is between Ted Cruz and Republican Lieutenant Governor of Texas, David Dewhurst.

Cruz was in Tyler Friday visiting with the Grassroots America conservative group. He spoke to Tylerites about federal government power.

"I don't want to look my daughters in the eyes in 20 years and tell them they've inherited a country that's bankrupt, that is crippled with crushing debt, because their parents and grandparents, we were too irresponsible to live within our means. That's what the stakes are, and we've got to stop it, not in 5 years or 10 years, we've got to stop it now," Cruz says.

The run off election is July 31. Early voting starts July 23.
