Tyler city leaders award the seventh "Reflections" recipient

TYLER (KYTX) -- Tyler city leaders awarded the 7th "Reflections" recipient today.

The Reflections Program was created to honor those who have contributed to city history. This year's recipient is Noble Young.

He pursued a career as a chemist and a pharmacist, which led him to open the very first African American drugstore in Tyler in 1946.

"He worked with young people and encouraged them to get an education and changed lives by his care of others," Mayor Barbara Bass said.

Young provided free medicine to families who could not pay. He also provided jobs for African Americans to work in his store as clerks and delivery messengers for newspapers, magazines and African American publications.
