BULLARD (KYTX) - "I just immediately started crying because it's just amazing. It was just hard to see."
Kaylee Bryan, her husband, Connor, and their four children, were forced to leave their home in Ruidoso after fires destroyed everything they own.
The Bryans live and work at Bonita Park Nazarene Camp and Conference Center, a Christian camp for children. They visited last week and sifted through the remnants of what used to be their home.
"I just have to get that mindset that it's just stuff, that my family is ok and we're safe." said Bryan.
Her husband is in New Mexico already, helping to rebuild the camp.
"Our main office, which includes our dining room, is still there. And, our two newest lodgings survived." said Bryan.
Still, there is a lot of work left to be done.
Bryan says although she's enjoyed her stay here at her mother's house in East Texas and catching up with old friends she grew up with, she says New Mexico is where she calls home now. And, she's ready to get back and join her husband, Monday.
"We're ready to be somewhere permanently for a while." said Bryan.
For now, the Bryans will be living in a temporary house owned by friends.
She says their main goal is to get the camp back up and running this summer for children. They're not sure how long it will take. But, she says shutting down the camp was never an option.
"A lot of us would be out of jobs and we would have to move away, so that's just something that we did not want to do."
Bryan says there has been an outpouring of support from the local Red Cross and community members in helping rebuild the camp.
