WHITEHOUSE (KYTX) - Hot rods, hot food and hot temperatures out at Lake Tyler today, celebrating community.
It was the first time the city of Whitehouse Chamber of Commerce put on Lakefest, and they're calling it a big success.
All the sounds and sights of summer.
"Love the music, love the fun, just been a great day for Whitehouse," says Suzanne Loudamy.
Loudamy came out to Lake Tyler to cook up and cook off.
"We didn't win, but we did well and it's all about a good time," says Loudamy.
We sent in a celebrity panel of judges to pick the best ribs, brisket and margaritas at Lakefest.
"We thought we had the perfect recipe and we did. And because we like margaritas by the pool," says Matt Green and his brother-in-law Jeremy Souter, who won the margarita contest.
So how did Matt and Jeremy win?
"I think it was the beer," says Green.
The City of Whitehouse Chamber of Commerce organized the first Lakefest at Lake Tyler to celebrate the community.
"Wanted to really give something back to the community and help local businesses," says Don Green, the Vice President for the Chamber of Commerce.
From vendors, to sand sculptors, music and homemade boats.
"We only had 4 rules, made out of cardboard, have to wear life jackets, have to have 3 people in it and has to be man powered," says Green.
All just part of summertime fun with the community.
Even a trip up in the sky.
Unless, of course, you were vying for one of the trophies.
"We won the trophy, all that matters. And we had other secret recipes," say Green and Souter.
Even if it was for a friendly game of washers.
"The crowd was great, vendors were great, music has been wonderful, we could have use a cloud -- no rain," says Loudamy.
You still have a chance to catch the bands tonight, for just about an hour more.
All proceeds from events today will benefit the Whitehouse Food Pantry and Tyler Type One Diabetes Foundation.
