Longview woman arrested for plotting to kidnap and kill a pregnant mother

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) -- Police say a Longview woman faked her pregnancy for months and went to a local hospital with a plan to kidnap and kill another woman for her baby. CBS 19's Abby Broyles is live at Good Shepherd Medical Center tonight in Longview with the latest.

We're learning more tonight about Tanya Bradley's alleged plan..

Police tell us she came here to Good Shepherd with gloves, knives, and duct tape -- all to carry out her plan to kidnap and kill a pregnant woman. But police arrested her before any of that could happen.

30-year old Tanya Bradley is behind bars Monday charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit capital murder - counts for both a mother and baby.

Police arrested Bradley late Friday night after officers picked her up outside Good Shepherd that afternoon..

"We received a call from one of the witnesses saying they had dropped Tanya Bradley off at the hospital," Officer Kristie Brian said.

Investigators say Bradley faked her own pregnancy to her family for months, but she wasn't actually pregnant.

Police say on Friday, Bradley admitted her plan to family members to kidnap a pregnant woman from the hospital, kill her and take her baby..=

"She had decided to actually find a mother that was pregnant. She was going to take her out into the county and then take the mother's life and take the child," Officer Brian said.

Bradley's family called police. Officers say Bradley wasn't targeting a specific woman at the good shepherd and never got past the front doors.

Vice president of operations Ron Short told us Monday they do have emergency plans in place in the rare case something like this happens.

"We always have security officers that are available throughout the building and typically in a number of the entrances to provide a security presence," Short says, "Longview police department is very essential to us, they have a presence here as well, just to help us ensure safety and security."

Police say Bradley admitted that Friday morning, she bought knives, gloves and duct tape before she went to the hospital - all part of a twisted and potentially deadly plot that landed Bradley in jail.

CBS 19 spoke with Bradley's family at their home today, but they didn't want to talk about Bradley's arrest.

Bradley was arraigned in Longview this weekend and she remains behind bars tonight on bonds totaling $500,000 for two counts of criminal attempt to commit capital murder.

Police tell us it was a complete surprise to Bradley's husband that she wasn't pregnant.

No word yet on a court date for Bradley.

At this point, no one else in her family is facing charges.
