Longview library celebrates 25 years

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW, TEXAS (KYTX) Wednesday in Longview is a celebration of another momentous occasion - the Longview public library is celebrating 25 years. The public library opened it's doors in 1987. Since that time the library has grown from just books to a computer lab, DVD's and much more.

"They opened on July 4, 1987 so this is a big day for us," explains Elissa Breitenstein.  For 25 years the Longview public library has kept the community's nose in a book.  The 35,000 square foot facility is filled with so much more.   "We offer everything from wholesome family fun entertainment with all of our programs. We help educate the kids with our summer reading club spring reading club for the little kids," says Elissa.

Wednesday's celebration included everything from popcorn, hoola hooping and even pony rides.  There was something for everyone to enjoy.

While the library is celebrating its past, it's already looking forward to the next 25 years.   "We just want to keep on growing hopefully a bigger building maybe. Maybe do some expansions or open more branches," says Elissa.

The anniversary celebrations at the library will last through-out the week.   The Longview public library often has special activities and events including a summer reading program.   To find out about all of the wonderful programs they offer, just call the city of Longview.
