MARSHALL (KTBS) - A paranormal party is heading to Marshall, Texas. Investigators will gather for the first ever East Texas Ghost Conference, and will explore the historic areas of the city searching for things that go bump in the night.
Unknown Paranormal of Longview, Texas first discovered the paranormal phenomena of Marshall last October when it investigated the old City Hall. The group then decided the Marshall would be the perfect site for its Ghost Con.
"Marshall will be seen in a new light," said Geraldine Mauthe, Director of Visitor Services for the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Here in our historical places they will be hunting for spirits of the past."
One site that will be explored is the Ginnochio Hotel. Built in 1896, it was a prime venue for travelers on the T&P Railroad. Within the past year, Larry Bennett and his wife have been renovating the space to be used for business offices and event rooms. But, they say there have been unexplained sights and sounds during the construction.
"There's been sightings, and like any old building you hear noises," said Bennett. "There are supposedly ghosts in the Ginocchio Hotel."
The Ghost Con will be held August 18th beginning at 9am at the Marshall Visual Arts Center. There will be guest speakers, a Ghost Walk and Nighttime Cemetery Tour. Fifty spots are being made available for those wanting to join the experience, for $60 each.
