Hug triggers officer's gun, kills woman

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT, MI (CBS) - A Detroit Police officer is on paid administrative leave this morning after a hug causes a deadly accidental shooting.

This happened early Sunday morning. Adaisha Miller was celebrating what would have been her 25th birthday. According to a statement released by the Detroit Police Department, Miller gave the officer a hug, which caused his gun to go off. The officer was not on duty at the time.

The young woman's mother, Yolanda McNair, says she's not sure she's getting the whole truth about what happened.

"All my daughter did was try to enjoy her 25th birthday. Now instead of planning her 25th birthday party I have to plan her funeral." She was a loving person, she gave with her heart... if you wanted or needed something she gave it to you without hesitation."

Adaisha's birthday is today. We still don't know if any charges have been filed against that off-duty police officer.
