TYLER (KYTX) - Tyler city leaders want to hear from you. A survey will begin circulating next week, asking for your input on the future on Tyler, on everything from parks, to business development, to housing.
For Patricia Jackson, it's more restaurants.
"More eating places, especially on Highway 64." Jackson says.
And, Frankie Ramirez would like to see more sidewalks for the safety of joggers.
"Because you know, people run on the sides of the road, and people don't think about that to be careful for them." Ramirez says.
This survey has a list of questions asking people to rank what's important to them, from public transit, to healthcare, to employment and much more.
Mayor Barbara Bass says Tyler leaders need the input to know where to steer the city's goals.
"It's not just about the mayor and a council going to a meeting once a month or twice a month, or the staff doing what they do." says bass. "It's really about all of us working together to make Tyler the Tyler that we want it to be for the future."
Five years ago, city leaders implemented the "Tyler 21 Plan," which spelled out goals for 21st century Tyler. Now, it's time to update those goals.
"To stay relevant with the needs of our community." says Bass.
2,000 randomly selected people will get the surveys next week, so be on the lookout in your mailbox. Those surveys will also contain a link allowing you to take the survey online. Mayor Bass says you should also receive a phone call at least two days prior notifying that you've been selected.
"It's about us working together as a community to create this Tyler of the future."
Mayor Bass says by November, city leaders will have a better idea of what's been accomplished and what's left to be done in the future.
