Nacogdoches makes list for most dangerous cities in America

Posted: Updated:

NACOGDOHES (KYTX) -- A new study puts Nacogdoches in the top 100 most dangerous cities in America.

A survey called Neighborhood Scouts uses the most recent finalized crime report data from the FBI and divides it by the population of the town.

The math puts Nacogdoches as the number 99 most dangerous on their list.

Out of the crimes evaluated, aggravated assault has the most reports in Nacogdoches at 274. But the police department says that's simply not true.

"That immediately says to me that's an error and the best we can determine right now is we had 36 compared to 274 and 274 would certainly send the crime rates skyrocketing," Nacogdoches Sgt. Gary Sowell said.

"It concerns me, you know, growing up here and my kids being raised here, I had no idea," Bernadette Benson said. "I thought bigger towns like Dallas, Houston, Tyler would be on there before we would."
