Health Alert: Reducing stress helps MS

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Reducing stress could help patients with multiple sclerosis. Researchers at Northwestern studied 121 multiple sclerosis patients and found those who took part in a weekly stress management program prevented new brain lesions from developing. Brain lesions are a marker of the disease and usually form before a flare-up of symptoms like vision loss or pain.

(CBS) - New research challenges the belief that eye movement is associated with lying. After completing three studies, British researchers say the idea that looking to the right suggests a person is lying, while looking left suggests someone is telling the truth is false. They say this is not an effective way to tell if someone is lying.

(CBS) - Concussions appear to be increasing in college football players. Walter Reed National Military Medical Center monitored the rate of concussions in three college football programs from 2009 to 2011. Head injuries doubled during that time. In 2010, the National College Athletic Association began requiring athletic programs to report signs and symptoms of concussions and remove injured players from the game.
