TYLER (KYTX) - A cable network ranks Texas the top state for business, and part of that is for the infrastructure driving the economy.
This is the second year in a row the Texas Department of Transportation has been ranked number one in infrastructure and transportation.
That's why so many businesses choose to locate here.
If you stop a driver, they'll probably have an opinion on Texas roads.
"A lot smoother, a lot more organized. Except the construction, that's awful," says Max Switzer.
"Not here lately, I've seen a lot of rough roads that need repair," says George Richardson.
Richardson thinks the state spends more money on interstates than other roads.
"Pot holes and road asphalt seems like it's coming up. Coming up from the highways," says Richardson.
But the truth is, Texas beat out every other state when it comes infrastructure and transportation.
That's based on the safety of roads and efforts to improve congestion, all driving the economy.
"It's almost mind boggling how much of the nations freight comes through Texas," says Larry Krantz with the Texas Department of Transportation.
Krantz says it's not just the thousands of miles of interstate and highways, it's the access to shipping by air and water that make a Texas a great place move merchandise.
"If the infrastructure isn't there, then there are costs associated with those delays," says Krantz.
Even new roads and expansions like Loop 49 in Smith County are giving drivers more space as the state continues to grow.
"People who come here looking for job, our economy will stay strong and transportation is a big part of that," says Krantz.
As for drivers, it's still good news, even if there are a few bumps along the way.
Obviously it's about connectivity and congestion, moving all the wheels through as fast as possible.
There's even more expansion going on with construction projects on Interstate 35 and Interstate 69.
We also took top rankings in economy, technology and innovation and cost of living.
Of the study's 325 possible points for transportation Texas racked up 248.
