(CNN) - The heat may have you screaming for ice cream this summer. We've got the scoop on some some cool ice cream apps.
Remember what it was like to chase the ice cream truck down the street? So quaint, so old-fashioned, so delicious. Now it's gone hi-tech, for a sweet test-drive at least.
Uber, the app that lets city-dwellers summon transportation to their doors wanted to try that concept for another set of wheels. So in seven cities, including Washington, New York and Boston, for just one summer day, they decided to try ice-cream trucks, on demand.
"When you open your Uber app, in addition to sedans and SUV's that we normally offer, you'll actually see an ice cream truck," says Rachel Holt, Uber Washington General Manager.
For those far out of earshot of the ice cream man's happy tones, there are apps to help craft your own frozen treats at home. The Epicurious Recipes and Shopping List app for Apple, Anroid, Kindle and more, has a section devoted to summer desserts, including creative homemade ice creams, ice cream pies and just plain ices.
And the Ice Cream Recipe maker app from Fine Cooking for iPhone lets summer chefs pick from a variety of flavors and ingredients and then formulates a step-by-step recipe, with tips for smoothing the process along the way. They've got one for ice pops too.
