(KCEN) -- Three Juvenile inmates cut a hole in the fence of the Texas Youth Commission and escaped, before being caught by local police tonight.
They escaped around 5:30 Sunday and started going away from the TYC, but the police established a perimeter and surrounded them. The escapee's were on foot and at one point, tried to cross a street in front of cops.
The group then got confused in their direction and started heading back towards TYC, they were caught around 8 p.m., not more than 200 yards away from TYC in a wooded area.
All are at least 17 years old and were booked into McLennan county jail. They are being held on charges of escape, a 3rd degree felony. Depending on history, they are looking at two to 10 years in a state prison, and will be tried as adults.
It is believed that one of the suspects had family in Waco, and to the police's knowledge they were never armed.
In 2005 there was a previous escape attempt from TYC, in which they also cut a hole in the fence.
