EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Much of East Texas remains abnormally dry, but only the eastern two-thirds of Cass County in our area is in extreme drought. Marion County and the rest of Cass County are in severe drought, and much or all of Shelby, Panola, Harrison, Morris and Titus counties are in moderate drought.

The recent rainfall has prevented us from slipping farther into drought, but it has not returned us to normal moisture conditions. This year through July 15th, Tyler is 4.32" below normal rainfall, Longview is 3.87" below normal, and Lufkin is 1.08" above normal year-to-date.
