What's Trending: JC Penney dropping cashiers

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Struggling retailer, JC Penney has an idea to boost business: get rid of check-out counters.  CEO Ron Johnson says the department store chain is replacing all its technology infrastructure with a new system that won't require clerks.

Instead, shoppers will be able to use self-checkout machines, similar to those found in many grocery stores.  It's part of an effort to return the company to profitability.  Johnson told Fortune magazine he hopes to phase out checkout counters by 20-14.

(WKYC/IMGUR.COM) - Three fast food workers are without a job after a picture they took inside a burger king went viral.  This photo shows an employee in Ohio standing in two lettuce bins.  Apparently three employees posted the picture online as a prank, but never removed the metadata or digital signature.  When ever you take a digital photograph, information is always attached to which ever picture you take.  In a statement, Burger King says food safety is a top priority at all Burger King restaurants, and the company maintains a zero tolerance policy against any violations such as these in question.

(CNN) - Sofia Vergara is the leading lady on Forbes' list of TV's highest paid actresses.  The "modern family" star topped second-place finisher Kim Kardashian, earning a whopping $19 million dollars last year.  Where does it all come from?  She's more than just an Emmy-winning sitcom actress, but also has a clothing line at K-mart and endorsement deals with Cover Girl and Diet Pepsi.  Vergara also co-founded a marketing, production and new-media company called Latin World Entertainment.

(RTV) - If you've ever thought someone's response was robotic, think again.  This robot seems to have expressions down.  Researchers hope to one day devise an android that fits seamlessly in with society, expressing itself just like a human.  Looks like they're close to accomplishing that goal.  Italian scientists have created a robotic face that can mimic more than 100 facial muscle movements of a real person.

More than 32 motors are used to simulate different expressions -- anger, disgust, fear and happiness.
