Gas prices continue to rise

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - For the first time in months, gas prices are rising across the state including here in East Texas.

When you have a trailer full of lawn mowers, you're going to have a lot of gas tanks to fill.

"Kind of hard on us," said Kendall Ginn.

For this East Texas lawn mowing company, the last thing they want to see is a higher number at the gas pump.

"It's tough out here. This is how we eat," said Ginn.

Gas prices in Texas are up six cents just since last week. Do you remember last month?

"I know some places were like $3.05," said Randy Freeman.

The good news? We're paying 30 cents less for a tank a gas than we were this same time last year. But for people on a budget, like college students, it's still hurting their bank accounts.

"We got to eat. We get hungry," said Marjani Washington.

But as gas prices continue to rise, some people have to make a choice.

"Should I have a way to go get the food or should I just eat the food? You got to decide on what you want to do," added Washington.

Industry analysts say the price of gas will continue to rise through the end of the month.

Crude is now trading at $93 a barrel, it's highest since May. The price is rising because of sanctions put on Iran over it's nuclear program by the United States.

"If they got down to about $2, it would help everybody," said Ginn.

If you're waiting for the gas prices to go down, you'll have to wait a couple of months. Gas prices aren't expected to drop until after labor day in September.
