Bossier City police have charged a woman with child desertion for leaving her 7-month old son in a hot car for several minutes following her arrest by the United States Marshall's Violent Offender Task Force.

Venus Michelle Lofton, 24, of Arcadia Louisiana was tracked down and arrested by Task Force members at the Rodeway Inn and Suites in the 3000 block of Hilton Drive around 11 a.m. today. Lofton was wanted on warrants out of Bienville Parish for burglary of a pharmacy and drug charges.

During their contact with Lofton, task force members learned she had left her infant son alone in her vehicle for several minutes in the parking lot. The car was running with the air conditioner on however it wasn't cooling properly. Officers say the child was sweating and hot leading them to contacted Bossier City Fire Department personnel who found the child to be running a fever.

EMS crews took the child to Willis-Knighton Bossier to be checked out by medical staff. The boy's condition was believed to be non-life threatening.

Bossier City police booked Lofton into the City Jail as a fugitive from Bienville Parish and arrested her by citation on the child desertion charge. Lofton's brother, Joshua Lee Loft, 21, of Shreveport was also arrested at the same location for being wanted by Louisiana Probation and Parole.
