BRIERWOOD BAY (KYTX) -- A young woman--8 months pregnant--was kidnapped Thursday night. Her best friend was shot to death. Investigators say a Henderson County man is behind both crimes.
19-year-old Tiffany Hurd disappeared just after 10:30 Thursday night. That's when investigators say 22-year-old Jackie Guthrie kidnapped her. Guthrie's family and Hurd's family both confirm she's 7 to 8 month's pregnant with Guthrie's child.
Just before Guthrie allegedly left with Hurd, neighbors heard several shots outside a home in the 22000 block of Brierwood Bay Drive.
"They'd got in a real good fight with each other, screaming 'cheating on me,'" Rodney Dorris said.
18-year-old Chantel Barrett was killed. She's Hurd's best friend but investigators say she wasn't the one in the fight, calling her an "innocent victim."
Barrett's manager at Texas Road House in Tyler, Sara Register, called her the perfect employee.
"She's not someone that you would think you would hear a story like this about," Register said. "I was devastated. I was shocked. I thought 'This is a nightmare. This isn't really happening.' I didn't know what to think. I'm still in shock."
Several of Guthrie's family members and his current girlfriend said it's too painful to talk about what's going on, knowing the accusations that are against him. But they said they're shocked because it's out of character for him to be violent.
"This, this is not him. It's not him," a childhood friend who asked to remain un-named said. "I hope he is really thinking about what he's doing, man, that's my little dude. I'm sorry I couldn't have been there more. You know what I'm saying? I'm sorry I couldn't have been there more."
Investigators are asking for the public's help spotting Guthrie's car. They say he's driving a silver 2001 Ford Crown Victoria with custom wheels and tinted wheels. They also say he'd armed and dangerous.
Guthrie's Crown Victoria was last seen leaving the Coffee City area around 11:00 Thursday night. The license plate on that car reads CKP-512.
