Security measures changing after shooting; East Texans react

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- East Texans offering condolences following the shooting rampage at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. While managers wouldn't interview with CBS19 in Tyler, some told us off-camera they already have good policies and security measures in place.

Nationwide, AMC movie chain is now coming forward saying it won't allow offensive costumes or face masks in theaters in the wake of the tragedy.

Investigators have identified James Egan Holmes as the lone suspect, and say he called himself "The Joker" after firing bullets into the theater. "This is a calculated, non-remorseful, act," Toni Dowdy, ETMC Behavioral Therapist, said.

Dowdy says wanting to hurt others without considering the stakes, is the tendency of a psychopath. "Even early on, they will start showing signs of no respect for authority, no remorse when they do things wrong or hurt others," she said.

Neighbors have described Holmes as a loner. "I work at a prison and you have people that just like that, they snap," Joseph King, a movie-goer at Times Square, said.

One teen says despite the tragedy, she doesn't want to live in fear. "We were going to see the movie today, and it made me think twice about wanting to go because it was random. It could happen anywhere," Jessica King, another going to see the new flick, said.
