They were given until next Monday to file formal charges.
"There's no such thing as a slam dunk case. We're still looking at the enormous amount of evidence." The district attorney said her office will consider pursuing the death penalty, and consult with the families of the victims before making that decision. If the death penalty is sought, that's a very long process that will impact their lives for years.
David Sanchez ‘s pregnant daughter escaped the massacre without injures.
She is due to give birth today. But her husband is in critical condition after being shot in the head.
"She needs to have that baby delivered, and she needs to take care of her husband, and everybody needs to pray for them."
Security was tight when the suspect faced the judge today. Police stationed snipers on the courthouse roof.
Holmes is being kept in solitary confinement.
There could be hundreds of charges, in addition to first-degree murder, possibly also domestic terrorism charges. Holmes' next court appearance is a week from today.
