CRYSTAL BEACH — Authorities are investigating the Monday death of a Longview man who died after bystanders pulled him from the water.
Jeffery Buttram, 42, was found shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday in the water near the 1900 block of Avenue J in Crystal Beach. He was brought to the beach and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation, said John Florence, a spokesman for the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office.
Peninsula Emergency Medical Services and volunteer firefighters aided in Buttram's transfer to a medical helicopter, which flew him the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Buttram was pronounced dead at 12:36 p.m. Monday. An autopsy scheduled for today could determine what caused his death.
