DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Police in riot gear faced an angry crowd of hundreds that gathered in southeast Dallas Tuesday afternoon shortly after a suspect was shot dead in an officer-involved shooting.

Footage from Chopper 11 showed officers putting up crime tape near the scene at 520 Barber Ave. as at least 150 people gathered around, many visibly upset. More would come; by 7 p.m., Dallas Police estimated the crowd to be upwards of 300.

In a release, Dallas Police said the shooting took place on Bourguin Street and no officers were injured. They said investigators were still on scene and more information would come after they finish.

Dallas Police said officers from the city's seven substations were called to help control the crowd.

At about 6:40 p.m., the victim's family lined up near the police tape, which was set up at Barber Ave. and Dixon Ave. Officers facing the family donned riot gear. Another group gathered at the Dixon Grocery about a block away.

Councilman Dwaine Caraway arrived on scene at about 6:45 p.m. to try and settle the crowd.

"We're trying to bring the temperature down here so we can thaw it out and figure out what happened," he said.
