LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A Gladewater man convicted today in a October robbery in South Longview received a 50-year prison sentence, authorities said.

A jury in Gregg County's 188th District Court found 38-year-old Sylvester Kelly guilty of robbing a driver in the 2700 block of Estes Parkway on Oct. 30. Longview police said Kelly took the driver's wallet after shooting through the driver's side window, leaving an exit hole through the front windshield.

After the verdict, District Judge David Brabham sentenced Kelly to 50 years in prison, according to the Gregg County District Clerk's Office.

County records show that Kelly has two prior convictions for unlawfully carrying a weapon as well as a 1993 murder charge that was never prosecuted.
