A grieving family wants justice against the driver that killed their loved one, Jacky Wayne Johnston, in a hit-and-run crash on April 1, 2012.
His son, Kody Johnston, now offering $10,000 of his own money for information that can convict the person responsible. To help recoup some of those costs, he's also holding a benefit in his father's memory.
According to DPS investigators, Jacky "ZZ" Johnston was riding his motorcycle when he was hit on Highway 64 near CR 292 around 1 a.m. by a pickup truck. A cross now stands in memory of Johnston at the spot where it happened.
It left many questions for family members like Kody. "It was probably one of the most horrible things that's ever occurred in my life , and I just want to get justice for it."
Nearly four months later, DPS is still working to answer some of those questions, now with a lead in the case."We are trying to locate the owner of the vehicle. We have some questions the investigators would like to have answered," Jeanne Dark, DPS spokesperson, said.
Dark says evidence at the scene has linked investigators to the pickup truck involved. They believe it's a 1999 Black Ford F250. They've identified the owner as Eduardo Viramontes, but have not been successful at questioning him, because he was last spotted in Mexico.
The Johnstons are holding "ZZ's" benefit October 6th at the American Legion. The event will include food, t-shirts, and auctions.
