Police: Dallas woman jailed for drug possession near school

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A 50-year-old Dallas woman remains in the Gregg County Jail on $5,000 bond, charged with crack cocaine possession in a drug-free zone.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, Longview PD patrol officer Anthony Minyard noticed a woman walk away from a house in the 1200 block of Douglas Street and get into the driver seat of a passenger car that had an expired inspection sticker. Minyard initiated a traffic stop of the car and made contact with the driver, Valerie Lazette Lacy.

"Due to the residence I observed her to be leaving from is known to me to sell crack cocaine, I asked her for consent to search her vehicle," Minyard wrote in Lacy's arrest report. "Valerie agreed to let me search and as soon as I opened the driver-side door to begin my search, I looked in the door pocket and located a small crack rock."

The Douglas Street address is within 1,000 feet of a public school. Lacy admitted buying the crack from the house for $10, the report stated.

If indicted and convicted, Lacy faces up to 10 years in prison.
